Gunite is sprayed against a steel frame, which leaves the shape and the size of a pool almost entirely open. That matters on the steep, wind-exposed sites much of the Cape Peninsula is built on.

Before any excavation the team advises on where a pool should sit and which way it should face, weighing sunlight, prevailing wind, buildings and boundary lines. Completed projects include pools at Camps Bay, Clifton, Bakoven, Constantia, Kenilworth and Simon's Town.

Renovation is the other half of the work, from modernising a dated pool to converting an existing one to a rimflow edge. The same people handle a job from quoting through to installation, with the emphasis on the detail of the finish.
